Ben Stanley has extensive experience representing global industry leaders, international technology businesses, and public companies in multi-billion dollar disputes and transactions. Prior to joining TechLaw Ventures, Mr. Stanley spent several years with Kirkland & Ellis, the premier law firm of Chicago, Illinois, and with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in its Orange County, California office. Mr. Stanley has represented major corporations in a variety of industries, including airlines, medical waste disposal, pharmaceuticals, sporting goods, cloud computing, real estate, financing, education, insurance, consumer electronics, and software.

Mr. Stanley possesses a rare depth and breadth of intellectual property licensing and litigation expertise, has handled sophisticated bankruptcy matters, securities disputes including shareholder derivative suits and class action claims, and defended officers and directors of international companies in depositions and governmental investigations. He has published and practiced in cutting-edge areas of electronic discovery, and has managed teams of talented attorneys in all aspects of trial, motion practice, arbitrations, mediations, and creative settlements. He has resolved lengthy disputes with mergers, acquisitions, tender offers, and ongoing joint ventures of previously litigious parties. His philosophy involves building value and strengthening the negotiation positions of his clients with aggressive, honest, and professional engagement of all available tools of civil procedure and paving the path to whatever result the client deems in its best interest, whether that be victory at trial in state or federal court, an efficient and favorable settlement, or something in between, while preserving and improving key business relationships.

Mr. Stanley has prepared, defended, and deposed expert witnesses in various aspects of technology and intellectual property litigation, overseen local counsel and other firms in multi-jurisdictional and complex lawsuits, and retained and coordinated third-parties in matters ranging from trial exhibits and other graphics to expert testimony and document processing.

A graduate magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, Mr. Stanley served as an executive board member of both the Law Review and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, developing and integrating new technologies in online article tracking and publication as well as computer assisted mediation of conflicts.

Ben’s other passions include politics, where he has provided election law compliance and other legal and policy contributions to leading presidential and gubernatorial campaigns. He serves on the City Council of Pleasant Grove, Utah, where he represents over 38,000 residents, overseeing annual revenues of $32 million with over a hundred full-time employees. Ben also enjoys teaching, and he has presented CLE courses as far away as Hawaii, taught mediation and logic classes at BYU, and coached high school students in California for mock trial competitions.
